Scotty McCreery Plans On Showing His Country Roots on Next Record

Scotty McCreery is leaving behind the pop-country hooks of his most recent album.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone Country, the American Idol alum said that for his follow-up to 2013’s See You Tonight fans can expect more classic country.

“We just had the meeting with the label and the album is a go,” McCreery told Rolling Stone Country. “And I’m going to make a country music record. That’s what I had to try to convey to the label and they were all for it. The stuff I grew up with was that kind of music—I want to have some depth and portray a different side.”

McCreery’s country roots run deep. During his performances on American Idol, he would sing songs by George StraitAlan Jackson and Travis Tritt.
