Nine-time Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter and breast cancer survivor Sheryl Crow will be the national spokesperson to educate woman about a new, reportedly more accurate mammogram called the Genius 3D Mammography exam.

Crow, who was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 years ago, has embraced the opportunity to educate woman about the new technique, which its creators say has been proven to detect breast cancer earlier than the traditional 2D screening.

“Early detection saves lives — it’s that simple,” said Crow in a statement. “Women need to be advocates for their health, and that means getting annual mammograms starting at age 40 and taking advantage of the best, and most accurate, technologies available. I opted for a Genius exam because early detection is what saved my life — it’s a woman’s best chance at survival, and it’s a chance we all deserve.”

Statistically, one in every eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Genius says the 3D Mammography can detect cancer up to 15 months earlier than the previously used method and detects 41 percent more invasive cancers than conventional mammography alone.
