The “5-second rule” is not a good rule to follow after all. Researchers at Rutgers University have debunked the idea that it’s alright to eat food that has hit the floor as long as it’s picked up within 5 seconds. According to the experts bacteria can transfer to food no matter how fast you scoop it up from the floor. What food has the best chance of being contaminated the fastest? Researchers used all kinds of foods, and found that watermelon gets the most contamination when dropped on the floor…YUCK!
