Country artist Craig Morgan turned to social media on Wednesday morning (Nov. 9) to share some very impassioned feelings about Americans who threatened to leave the country if Donald Trump was elected president.
After Trump was elected in an upset that shocked the media and the nation, many Americans threatened to flee to Canada. Morgan’s message to the would be deserters?: “Don’t let the door hit you in the ass.”
He wrote on Facebook:
“God Bless America, land that I love. Stand beside her and guide her through the night with a light from above. America, I have stood and will always stand by you. You have allowed me to be me. I am proud to be from a nation where the people’s vote matters. There have been numerous people say that if Donald Trump was elected they would leave this nation. If you choose not to, I completely understand, as it is the greatest country in the world. Should you choose to stand by your word and leave, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.”
Morgan served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves for years before launching his country music career, and he has made several controversial political comments in the past, reports Taste of Country. In early 2015, he got into it with a post to Seth Rogen:
“This is in response to the comments made by Seth Rogen in a recent tweet,” he wrote. “I am sure he doesn’t care and normally I don’t comment on such statements however, this time I am…. I’m sick and tired of people like you running your mouth when you have no idea what it takes for this country to maintain our freedoms. If you and anyone like you don’t like it, leave.”
Not long after, Morgan appeared on Fox News to respond to comments made by Ebony.com Senior Editor Jamilah Lemieux during an appearance on MSNBC, when she said, “Nothing says, ‘Let’s go kill some Muslims’ like country music, fresh from Lynchburg, Virginia.”
“It’s a little insulting, but it’s also laughable,” Morgan said, adding, “Any time they have the opportunity to use something against a politician, or against a Republican, they’re just scratching at the surface to get anything they can to insult these people. And now they were trying to use country music — a format of music which is probably the most patriotic genre of music.”
